Make a 32×32 PNG favicon from a square logo

Turn one image into favicon-32.png for the browser tab, then make every other icon size from the original.

Key takeaways

  • The download is always favicon-32.png: 32 by 32 pixels, PNG, center cover crop.
  • It does not build a multi-size .ico, Apple touch icons, or the link tag in your document head.

Workflow

Start from a square logo with a little padding, so the cover crop does not clip the mark. Upload a PNG, JPEG, or WebP in Favicon Generator and download favicon-32.png.

Put that file where the site serves static files, then add a link rel icon in the document head yourself. If you also need a touch icon or a social image, run Image Resize or Image Format Converter on the original artwork, not on the 32×32 result.

Limits

The upload cap is 20 MB, the same ceiling as the other image tools. Output is always PNG at 32×32 with high PNG compression. There is no quality slider and no format picker.

Cover crop keeps the center. A wide wordmark loses the left and right edges. Generate the favicon from the logo file, not from a marketing screenshot.

What this tool does not do

It writes one PNG. It does not pack a .ico with 16, 32, and 48 pixel frames, and it does not write apple-touch-icon or mask-icon files.

It does not edit your HTML. Meta Tag Generator can draft social tags; it does not insert the favicon link for you.

FAQ

Will a wide logo stay wide?

No. The resize uses cover, so the shorter side fills 32 pixels and the rest is cropped from the center. Add padding in the source if the whole mark must stay visible.

Can I choose another pixel size?

Not here. This tool has no size field. Use Image Resize when you need 16×16, 180×180, or any other box, and keep this step for the 32×32 tab icon.
